HOPE Center shares wish list
The Alle-Kiski Area HOPE Center, Tarentum, needs items for the clients that it serves.
Items needed include underwear, hair products for all types of hair, tweezers, disposable razors, shampoo and conditioner. Household products being accepted include dish detergent, trash cans, kitchen towels, paper towels, toilet paper, cleaning products and laundry detergent. Items needed for children include new baby monitors, bottles, sippy cups, baby wipes, slippers, socks and pajamas.
Gift cards in $10 increments from Sheetz, GetGo, Giant Eagle, Community Market and Walmart are also welcome. Donations can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the HOPE Center administration building, 500 E. Eighth Ave., Tarentum. Call 724-224-1100 when you arrive.
Kennywood Slovak Day celebration planned for July 18
The Western Pennsylvania Slovak Day Committee will present the 99th annual American Slovak Day on July 21 at Kennywood Park, West Mifflin.
The Slovak kitchen will open at 12:30 p.m. in Pavilion No. 4. On the Main Pavilion Stage, No. 5, there will be Slovak cultural displays and vendors and Mass will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Bishop Larry Kulick of the Catholic Diocese of Greensburg. After Mass, there will be a sing-along and the Pittsburgh Slovakians will perform.

Friday: The Pittsburgh North chapter of the Women’s Business Network will meet at 9 a.m. at Parkwood United Presbyterian Church, 4289 Mt. July 16: Tickets are on sale for the Ford City Community Kennywood picnic at Klingensmith Drug Stores in Ford City, Kittanning and West Kittanning. Cost: $28 for a FunDay Pass. Passes can also be used weekdays through Aug. 19. An extra $10 fee will be charged to use the tickets on weekends through Aug 19. Bus tickets for the day of the picnic are also available for $8. Today: The free Thursday Music Series at 7 p.m. in the Pittsburgh Shrine Center pavilion will feature the Tina Daniels Band. Gates open at 6 p.m. Rain or shine. Free parking. Food and drinks will be available. No tailgating, outside food or beverages permitted. The weekly event is sponsored by Band Together Pittsburgh, Moondog’s and the Pittsburgh Shrine Center.

July 31: A purse bash to benefit Robin’s Home charity that provides help to low income women veterans and their children will be at Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 11 a.m., lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. and bingo begins at 1 p.m. Cost: $35 in advance; $40 at the door; includes lunch.
